Wednesday night we went to Neil Perry’s Spice Temple, a Modern Asian restaurant in the centre of Sydney. In February we dined at Rockpool (also a Neil Perry restaurant) for our anniversary and they were super accommodating and friendly… just as they were at Spice Temple.

The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and told me straight away what could and couldn’t be made vegan. I like that.

We ordered:

Steamed eggplant with 3 flavours which was nothing short of amazing. It’s a pity it came out in the beginning and I had to share it with everyone else…Actually it was probably for the best otherwise I would have inhaled the dish in one go. It’s so good.

Dried chestnuts and black fungi with pixian chili paste and fried tofu. The fried tofu was excellent and even my not so tofu loving Fiancé liked it.

The stir fried greens were delicious…they were eaten so quickly I forgot to take a photo.

What I love about this restaurant is the atmosphere. I love how dark it is. There are dim, individual lights hanging above each table but aside from that there is no other lighting in the restaurant. It’s like you are in a nightclub without loud music or in bed only sitting and eating. Whatever it is its cool and unlike any other dining experience I’ve had. Combine this with fantastic service and Spice Temple is restaurant you don’t want to miss.

We were disappointed. Food was lovely but they continued to mess up our wine order – serving wine in dirty glasses, with bits of cork floating in the wine. Wait staff were extremely unhelpful and to top it all off, that’s where the proposal was meant to be but because we constantly had wait staff at our table, it happened later but still with a positive response!

Oh no! If you have a bad waiter it doesn't matter how good the food is! At least you still got your proposal and gorgeous ring:)

That's really great if your not so tofu loving Fiancé had loved this dinner ! That's good news ^^ I would like my friends to do the same once in their life … For them, I'm quite bizarre (strange).

That's a shame, hopefully they will come around one day! You should cook them an amazing dinner and see if it doesn't change their opinions?
