36 Hours in Melbourne

We went to Melbourne for a whole 36 hours for Faiz’s 26th birthday. Here were some of the highlights…

We flew in Saturday night and went straight to Crown Metropol. It’s such a gorgeous hotel, very modern and “Melbourne”. This photo was taken right on the stroke of midnight on Faiz’s birthday when we were having a drink with some friends.

The next morning I woke up and caught the tram to the Lululemon factory outlet in Collingwood. The prices were even cheaper than in the outlet in Vancouver! How is that possible?! I left with a yoga mat, yoga strap and three tops. One was Faiz – I needed to bring something back for him on his birthday!

We then headed to Brunswick St, Fitzroy to have lunch at the Veggie Bar which was recommended to me by countless people – I now know why! The restaurant is huge and was completely packed even at 2pm! Given I’m not used to having so much choice, we went a little crazy with the food. We ordered nachos with vegan and cashew cheese, hokkien noodles with stir fried veggies, dim sims, samosas and vegetable gyoza dumplings plus a lime and cucumber juice and a raw shake! So much food but so worth it!

Afterwards we had a look at the shops and I ended up buying three jumpers – Faiz got nothing, sorry Faiz!

We then went back to the hotel for a rest and later that night we had dinner at Nobu.

Fortunately, we had booked a late dinner otherwise I don’t think we would have been able to eat anything! That’s one of my new jumpers.

Pickled Veggies

Green Salad with Japanese dressing – Yum!

Mushroom Skewers

And that was Melbourne! The next morning we work up at ridiculous o’clock to catch the 7am flight back to Sydney. It really felt like it was my birthday because I had such a good weekend. Thanks for the good times Melbourne!

Question: How was your long weekend? What other vego/vegan restaurants should I visit when I’m next in Mebourne? I’ve got the feeling there are many I don’t know of!
