Because our wedding is fast approaching like a freight train, I have really been stepping it up at the gym of late. Yep 4-5 times per week, no excuses and you know what? I feel great and I’m really enjoying it. So when the lovely Rachelle emailed me and asked if she could write a guest post, it couldn’t be at a better time, enjoy her wisdom and please do let me know what you think.
A guest post from Rachelle from Success is my Journey
It’s so important to have a voice in your head to encourage you to keep you going even when you would rather sit down and give up. We all have those days. It’s especially important when you have an important event coming up like a holiday to a beach destination, 10 year reunion, your wedding or a big race you are training for. We need to keep moving and keep the motivation up!
Three simple tips when training for a big event:
Motivation is the most important. I’m not a personal trainer, or a dietician, but I have a will to live a healthy lifestyle. This comes from my motivation to keep improving and becoming better. You have this will inside you too! You don’t need to have athletic experience or ‘good genes’ to look and feel good in your own skin.
Where can I find motivation?
Look to fitness icons. If you don’t have any, find some! Social media tools make it so easy to follow along with their lifestyle–I’ve found clean recipes, fitness tips and cool workouts all by spending a little time on Facebook!
My favorite Facebook fitness destinations: Fitness Model Amanda Adams, Fitness Model/Writer Jamie Eason– I also get pretty worked up over athlete success stories like the story of Lolo Jones.
Don’t know where to start? Or how to use a machine? Or think you’re going to be stared at by the meathead next to the bench press?
Don’t let intimidation squash your motivation. YOU have a goal & YOU are working out or at the gym to get it done! The hardest lift is getting up off the couch. Pat yourself on the back if you make it that far, but don’t. stop. there.
Do you get easily bored?
Keep things fresh to keep your body guessing and make it fun. Try Zumba after free weights and find yourself a gym buddy. Look online for some cool new workouts!
Remember “Failing to Prepare is Preparing to Fail”
Treat your body like you would a friend - you want to be kind and faithful to your body. It’s the only one you’ve got! Respect it. No amount of hours in the gym will be able to compensate for a bad diet. Sometimes we have to say goodbye to our favorite cheesecakes, cookies, pizzas and replace them with healthy alternatives in order to reach our goals.
If all else fails buy some new gym apparel to give you that extra push! Show off a new pair of gym shoes and cool shorts. Let those meatheads know you mean business ;)
