Meditation and I have had a long journey.
I’ve been around meditation from an early age, through children’s meditation books and family yoga retreats but I never practiced it regularly growing up.
Whenever I was upset my parents told me to close my eyes and “center myself”, I guess this was kind of a mini meditation but that is as far as I got to practicing frequently.
Into adulthood, my meditation practice has been just as inconsistent.
At the end of a yoga class for 10 minutes, no problem. Practicing in a group meditation class, sure thing. In Jamatkhana I can sit on the floor for an hour and zone out (or should I say zone in?) completely but practice at home daily? Well, that’s a different story.
I’ve started setting the alarm earlier and meditating for 10 minutes in the morning. Even that can be a struggle some days but I’m going to keep persisting!
I guess the point of this post is to encourage you to keep going even if you feel like your paddling up stream when it comes to meditation. We’re in the same boat (pun intended) and I’ve heard from others it does get easier – I really hope it does!
How do you meditate? Do you have a difficult relationship with meditation? Or has it gotten easier over time?
