1. Restaurant Review Bistro 80 at The Star

What once was Star City Casino has been turned into The Star - a hub of restaurants, bars, shops, entertainment (and yes a casino) in Prymont, Sydney. We dined at Bistro 80, a modern Australian restaurant on the second floor. I’m not usually a fan of modern Australian restaurants, too much meat and dairy (and not enough veggies) but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Bistro 80.  As we sat down our waiter confirmed I was indeed  a vegan and he mentioned the chef was preparing some options for me. They offered me a salad of avocado and...
  2. Restaurant Review Bills Surry Hills

In my former life as a vegetarian I loved Bills’ ricotta pancakes; but as I no longer eat dairy or eggs I was a little unsure of what I was going to eat..and rightfully so. I phoned ahead to give Bill’s the a heads up, and between the background noise I was told  “they would be able to do something for me”- I guess that means I should still come? Breakfast or brunch is probably the hardest meal for a vegan to eat out, but as we are big on sleeping in and cooking our own breakfasts it has never really been a problem. Perhaps the key...

  4. Restaurant Review Rockpool Sydney

Last Friday night was our three year anniversary. The venue we were going to for dinner was a surprise and all my guesses were completely wrong – shows how much I know!  Turns out our reservation was for Rockpool Sydney in The Rocks. This was the first time I had eaten at a “fine dining” restaurant since going completely vegan. I haven’t eaten dairy or eggs at home for over three years but when eating out I would make the occassional exception – ordering vegetarian can be difficult enough!  F had called ahead and let them know my “special” requirements, they said they...
  5. Restaurant Review Muum Maam

Last weekend we had dinner at Muum Maam in Surry Hills. We were originally going to Toko but we couldn’t find a park… so we thought we would go to  Longrain – no luck there either. We ended up on a random street, slightly disorientated but with a parking spot (for those of you not from Sydney, parking in Surry Hills is a nightmare); and even though we didn’t exactly know where we were, there was no way we were going to risk leaving the spot to get closer to the main road. This is how we found Muum Maam....
